Boowy Vocals: Kyosuke Himuro Guitar: Tomoyasu Hotei Bass: Tsunematsu Matsui Drums: Makoto Takahashi Started: 1979 Status: Disbanded ProfileBoowy was a Japanese rock band formed in 1979. The band consisted of Kyosuke Himuro on vocals, Tomoyasu Hotei on guitars, Tsunematsu Matsui on bass and Makoto Takahashi on drums. The band played different styles ranging from punk to pop rock. The band got to play a gig at Shinjuku live house called Loft, once a month. During that time, the band was called Boi. They changed their name to Boowy and released their indie album titled Moral, in 1982. The band continued touring in Japan in 1984 where they started to get offers from various recording companies but they decided to sign with a production company called Yui. Later on, the company managed to sign them up with Toshiba-EMI.
Soon after, Boowy became Japan’s top rock band and they had a concert at Yokohama, Kanagawa and Kobe, Hyogo on July 31 and August 7,
1987. The concert was called "CASE OF BOOWY". During the four hour concert, they played songs since their debut to their recent hits.
The band announced their disbandment on December 24, 1987, during the concert at Shibuya. There were rumors circulating that there was
a disagreement between Hotei and Himuro. LAST GIGS, which was Boowy’s farewell concert, were played for two nights only at Tokyo Dome
on April 4 and 5, 1988. 95,000 of the tickets were sold out in a mere ten minutes. Members of Boowy went separate ways after the
breakup. Himuro and Hotei went to concentrate on their solo careers.
sarcastic ThoughtsWhen you consider the time line that this band performed, their songs were quite good. Their music definitely has that 80’s rock feel to it. The background music is fairly simplistic, with a huge emphasis on the drums. As a result you tend to concentrate on the vocals and drums the most during each song.
